Converge Expo will run again at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on 15 and 16 September 2027, with organiser Prime Creative Media adding a Contractor Hub on the exhibition floor, a conference program and a matchmaking service that pairs developers with contractors chasing work. The civil and commercial construction trade show ran for the first time in 2025, also over two days in Melbourne.
The 2027 plans were set out in Roads & Infrastructure, in a piece first published in the magazine’s October edition. Worth knowing up front: Roads & Infrastructure is a Prime Creative Media title, so the magazine carrying the announcement and the company running the show are the same business.
More than 5000 people came through the doors of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre across the two days of the 2025 debut, according to organiser Prime Creative Media.
Molly Hancock, Head of Marketing at Prime Creative Media, said the first outing beat what the company had expected.
“Seeing Converge Expo come to life in 2025 was incredibly rewarding,” she said. “Bringing more than 5000 people through the doors confirmed that there is a real appetite for an Australian-owned event that genuinely connects the civil and commercial construction sectors.”
Three additions, and one that matters on the tools
The Contractor Hub is billed as a dedicated space on the exhibition floor giving attendees face-to-face access to the teams delivering major projects. Alongside it sits a new conference program, with industry figures talking through project delivery, procurement, market trends and upcoming opportunities. The third addition is Converge Connect, a matchmaking program running curated meetings between developers and contractors.
That first one is the bit a subcontractor should look at hardest. Getting in front of a head contractor’s delivery team usually means a prequalification portal, a cold email that goes nowhere, or knowing someone who knows someone on the job. Two days of those people sitting behind a desk at a known time and place is a different proposition, provided the meetings aren’t carved up between the tier ones before the doors open.
“Converge 2027 is designed to give attendees the insight, tools, and connections they need to secure their next projects,” Hancock said. “Attendees will leave better equipped to compete for, and win, this work.”
What a Gold Sponsor reckons it’s buying
Queensland workshop equipment supplier Genesis Equipment has signed on as a Gold Sponsor, its first time at the show. The company has been working across Australia’s heavy industries for close to a decade and sells through a dealership network.
“We have more than 100 years of combined experience across workshop, automotive, and truck applications,” said Steve Clifford, General Manager of Genesis Equipment. “Our customers range from automotive plants, truck and bus workshops, car dealerships, and the rail and mining sectors, to domestic car enthusiasts.”
Clifford’s reasoning isn’t really about selling hoists on the day. It’s about who walks past the stand.
“The Converge Expo is a major intersection of Australia’s construction space,” he said.
The crowd, as he describes it, runs from civil contractors and fleet managers to federal and state government officials. “They will all be attending the event and voicing their needs and hopes for the industry.”

“We want to be on the floor, getting our brand in the middle of these conversations,” he said.
He added: “We want the greatest number of people to know that we are a key supplier of workshop equipment, and we want to hear the greatest number of industry-wide decisions being made.”
Feedback is the other half of it. “It’s so refreshing to have access to people at an event like Converge,” Clifford said, pointing to the value of hearing from the people who actually run your gear day to day.
The arithmetic for a small outfit
For anyone running a two-ute operation, a trade show is a real cost, not a day out. Whoever you send isn’t invoicing hours for those two days, and if you’re coming from outside Melbourne you’re adding flights or fuel plus a bed. That’s the honest side of the ledger.
The other side is that it’s only two days, it’s locked to a date you can plan around, and the next one is nearly a year off. Pencilling 15 and 16 September 2027 into the diary now costs nothing, and it gives you time to decide whether you’re walking the floor or paying for a stand.
For electrical, mechanical and plant-side businesses, the gear is the other draw. Workshop and fitout equipment is the sort of purchase you want to put your hands on before you commit, and a floor full of suppliers beats a PDF spec sheet and a sales call.
What to watch between now and September
The questions worth asking as the exhibitor list fills out are simple enough. Which head contractors actually staff the Contractor Hub, and whether their delivery and procurement people are in the room or just their marketing teams. Whether Converge Connect meetings are open to small subbies or weighted to businesses already on a panel. And what the conference program costs on top of the floor entry.
If the Contractor Hub lands the way it’s being pitched, two days in Melbourne is one of the cheaper ways to get your name in front of people who award work. If it doesn’t, it’s a very well-attended room full of stands.
