3M has launched a new structural bonding tape line, the VHB Tape Max Series, in four thicknesses running from 0.6mm to 2.3mm, along with a matched adhesion promoter. The company is pitching it at jobs where panels are currently fixed to frames with rivets, welds or screws, across transport, construction and appliance manufacturing.
The launch was announced by 3M and published by Manufacturers’ Monthly on 19 August. It’s the manufacturer’s own product announcement, not an independent test, and every performance claim below is 3M’s.
What 3M says it does
The range uses what 3M describes as a unique acrylic chemistry, which the company says delivers strength and durability for long-term use in demanding conditions. The pitch is a cleaner bonding process than mechanical fasteners and liquid adhesives, aimed at applications where, in 3M’s words, failure is not an option.

Four sizes, and what the announcement doesn’t tell you

Where a bonding tape earns its keep on the tools
